Uphurch River Valley Golf Course Limitecd

About Us

It all began in mid-November 1989 when David Barling saw Natal Farm for sale with consent for a golf course. Enquiries were quickly made.

Consultants inspecting the land confirmed it was the best site they had seen for five years, the main features being the excellent drainage on the land.

Contracts were quickly exchanged and on the 3rd March 1990 a whole fleet of machines were brought to site and a vigorous work programme was put in place. That meant the grass seed was on green 4 and fairway during the first week of April, and by the 28th April the first blades of green grass were shooting through.

By the end of June 1990 all the grass on the 18 hole course was sown and the full automated water system was working. Next came the 9 hole course, and last but not least in December 1990 the footings for the clubhouse were excavated and concreted. By the end of January 1991 the steel clubhouse frame was being erected and the bricklayers were truly on site.

The whole of the construction was carried out by D. & W. Barling Limited and the clubhouse was completed on time ready for the formal opening on the 14th June 1991.

Further land was purchased during 1998 and the short 9 hole course was extended giving six par 4 holes. At the same time we were able to move the driving range to its current position and also build a much larger pro-shop. This in turn let us build much better changing facilities and locker rooms on the former driving range site, also letting us improve the 14th green and new practice pitching green.

Reinvestment has always been our policy.
